He was predeceased by: his parents, Spero Sampson and Patricia Rosena McGinnis Sampson; his son Joey Spero Sampson, Jr.; and his stepson Byron Scott DeMott. He is survived by: his wife Alice Herndon DeMott Sampson of Moultrie; his stepchildren, Marc DeMott (Sharon) of Moultrie and Gina DeMott Renner of Powder Springs; his grandchildren, Austen DeMott (Jane), Matthew DeMott, Taylor Rains (Austin) and Jackson Renner; his great grandchildren, Marc DeMott and Charles DeMott; and his close friend Australian Shepherd.
