She was predeceased by: her parents, Nell Dixon McCarter and Robert William McCarter; her husband Richard Franklin Bean; her son Robert Wood Overton; and her brother Dr. Neely Dixon McCarter.

She is survived by: her brothers, Dallas and Dr. Robert William McCarter, Jr. (Mickey) of Austin, Texas; her children, MaryAnne Smith (Steve) of High Point and Mark McCarter Overton (Jessica) of Randleman; and her grandson Eric Thomas Overton of Greensboro.
