He was predeceased by: his parents, Glenn Riordan Hammond and Juanita Clere Kennedy Hammond; his grandmother Mildred Hammond; his children, John Hammond, Jr. and Christina Hammond; and his sister Glenn Ellyn Powell.

He is survived by: his wife Sally Spagnolo Hammond; his grandchildren, Julie Hammond Alexander (Justin), Joshua Hammond, Daniel Hammond and Justin Guffey; his siblings, Bobby Hammond, Gerald Hammond, Juanita Bridges and Joanne Askew; and his great grandchildren, Caleb Hammond and Liam Alexander. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
