He was predeceased by: his parents, Hoyt Luther Phillips and Launa Stancil Phillips; and his brother Gilbert Phillips (Joan Phillips). He is survived by: his wife Barbara Hayes Phillips of Braselton; his son Mitch Phillips (Kendra) of Braselton; his brother Dillard Phillips (Diane) of Cleveland; his nephew Greg Phillips of Braselton; his grandchildren, Adria and Andrew; and his nieces, Cindy Miller and Patty Phillips.
