He was predeceased by: his parents, Early Watson and Berma Sue Jordan Smith; his son Benjamin "Benji" Smith; and his sister Carolyn Cox (Hamp). He is survived by: his wife Caroldine Horne Smith; his daughter Deana Carson (Pete) of Winterville; and his siblings, Betty Goss of Colbert, Johnny Michael Smith (Donna) of Colbert, Danny Wayne Smith (Connie) of Ila, Saylor Grace Smith and Whitley McGeary. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
