Barbara Louise Fleming was born in Detroit, Michigan May 17, 1943, to the late Robert and Ruby Barnes, and departed this life December 20, 2023, at her home in Spring Hill, Florida following a lengthy illness.
Barbara joined the church at an early age and was educated in the Detroit Public Schools system, graduating from Northwestern High.
Barbara met and married Torenner Stanley; to this union they had two children, Andrea and Torenner Jr. She later married Gordon Fleming, and gained a bonus son, Eric Fleming. She later adopted her nephew, Robert Fleming.
Barbara was a loving, caring and dedicated mother who not only loved her children, but other’s children as well. She always said, “let them stay here”, or “I’ll keep them” any time life’s challenges got in the way.
Barbara enjoyed many productive years working at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan. After retirement, she moved to Florida, which allowed her to enjoy her passions of golf, bowling, playing cards, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Gordon Fleming; children, Andrea Stanley, Eric Fleming (Ellyn), Torenner Stanley Jr. (Julie) and Robert Fleming; grandchildren Genre, Emily, Caleb and Preston; and a host of loving friends, including a special longtime friend of over 60 years, Brenda Watson.
She is joined in Heaven by her siblings, Margaret Hatcher, John Castelow, Ronnie Castelow, Robert Castelow, David Castelow, Eugene Castelow, Michael Castelow, Steven Barnes and Deborah Castelow, all who preceded her in death.
“God saw the road was getting rough; the hill was hard to climb. He gently closed those loving eyes and whispered, ‘peace be thine’. The weary hours, the days of pain, the sleepless nights are passed. The ever-patient worn-out frame has found sweet rest at last.”
