He was predeceased by: his parents, J. D. Garner and Lois E. Stanford. He is survived by: his wife Alice; and his children, Susanne, Jimmy (Cathy) and Teresa (Harry).

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Children's Ministry at First Baptist Church of Orange Park.
