He was predeceased by: his parents, John E. Buhl, Sr. and Emily Buhl (Haelig); his wife Patricia "Patty" Hoffman; and his son Major Paul T. Buhl. He is survived by: his brother Tom; his daughters, Constance Buhl and Katherine Buhl; his daughter-in-law Yongnan Buhl of Bethesda, Maryland; and his grandson John M. Buhl of Seattle. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who have fond memories of Uncle.
