He was predeceased by: his parents, Buford Monroe and Janie R. Higginbotham (Carter); his sons, David Higginbotham and Douglas Higginbotham; and his siblings, Elmer D. Higginbotham, James C. Higginbotham, Lois Waters and Merle English.
He is survived by: his wife Toria Higginbotham of Virginia; his sons, Gary Higginbotham, John Higginbotham (Kathy) and Steve Higginbotham (Diane); his sister Joyce Schmehl; and his niece Patty Hollifield. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
