He was predeceased by: his mother Annie Bell Sowell; his grandparents, Lenora Sowell and Robert Sowell, Sr.; and his siblings, Ronnie Jerome Dancer, Freddie Lavon Dancer and Annie Bell Lewis.

He is survived by: his son Maurice Monroe Sowell; his daughter-in-law Lorinda Sowell; his grandchildren, Jasmine, Marcus, Chantelle, Jonah and Jovan; his great grandchild Omarion; and his siblings, Dr. Jimmie Dominic Dancer, Sandra Dancer Thomas and Sharon LaFaye Mathis. He is also survived by his many uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, cousins, former classmates and friends.
