He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Irelan and Ada Ledbetter Irelan; his siblings, Elbert Irelan (Beatrice), Bobby Irelan and Dorothy Allen (L. C.); and his son Charles Edwards (Susan).
He is survived by: his wife Susan Slayton Irelan; his daughter Tracey Lynn Smith; and his stepchildren, Susan McMillan, Mary Viellenave (Todd) and Michael McMillan. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
