He was predeceased by: his wife Carol Pressley Braswell; his brother Charles Braswell; his parents, James Burdette Braswell and Mary Williams Braswell; and his brother William Phillip.

He is survived by: his close friend Theresa Patrick; his sons, James Neal Braswell Jr., Mark Braswell and Stephen Braswell; his siblings, Ken Braswell and Kathryn Nugent; his grandchildren, Lexie Wells, Dakota Braswell, Conor Braswell, Tyler Braswell, Moriah Braswell, Justin Braswell, Alec Braswell, Nina Braswell, Jordan Braswell and Cole Braswell; and his great grandchild Maisie Wells.
