BETTY BAXTER FAIRCHILD
HEADLAND . . . Betty Baxter Fairchild, a resident of Headland, died Tuesday night, November 15, 2011 in the Washington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Chipley, Florida. She was 80.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, November 18, 2011, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Norman C. Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Friday at the mortuary in Headland.

Mrs. Fairchild was born and reared in Headland, daughter of the late Terrance Moran Baxter, Sr. and Annie Genie Avant Baxter. She was a 1951 graduate of Headland High School. Mrs. Fairchild resided in various locations in the U. S. and Guam while her husband served in the U. S. Navy. She was initiated as a Shellback aboard a troop transport ship, USN Barrett, enroute to Guam crossing the International Dateline in 1959. She lived alone with the children in California when her husband was a mechanic for the Secretary of State in 1963. They moved to Milton, Florida where her husband was stationed and retired. Mrs. Fairchild returned to Headland in 1966 where she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Headland. She was a former member of the Chancel Choir and the Senior Adult Choir and also served as the leader of the Senior Adult Day of First Baptist. Mrs. Fairchild was a member of the Headland Garden Club and the Burdeshaw-Solomon Senior Center. She played piano well. She sewed well. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jim Baxter, Franklin Baxter and Moran Baxter and also a sister, Louise Baxter Carswell.
Surviving relatives include her husband, George Beyer Fairchild, Headland; three daughters, Rebecca Fairchild, Headland; Charlotte Fairchild Liphart and husband, Robert Liphart, Hiram, GA: Theresa Fairchild McGraw and husband, Dr. Christopher McGraw, Baudette, MN; two sisters, Martha Raley and husband, Pat, Kinsey, AL; Leah Durkee and husband, Earl, Memphis, TN; a sister-in-law, Robbie Baxter, Headland; a brother-in-law, Earl Carlswell, Selma, AL;two grandchildren, Nicholas McGraw and wife, April; and Patrick McGraw; a great-grandson, John McGraw; several nieces and nephews.
