He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Short and Ruth Anna Short; his sons, William Michael and Kevin Dwayne; and his brothers, William and Matthew.
He is survived by: his wife Louise; his children, John Jr. (Shelly) and Angel (Chris); his sisters, Bessie and Evelyn; and his niece Joni Lou.
