He was predeceased by: his parents, Doris Mae (Reedy) and James Walter Thomas, Sr.; his son Lawrence Wilbur Merle Thomas, Jr.; and his siblings, James Walter Thomas, Jr., Carol, Millie, Jeri, Sherron and Brenda.

He is survived by: his son James Walter Thomas of North Carolina; his sister Donna Lee Ksenich of Greensboro, Maryland; his grandchildren, Shelby, Raleigh, Sheyenne, Jonathan and Mason; and his great grandchild Elizabella. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist with expenses.
