Beloved husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather" Manuel Vilela, 100, of Watertown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Rosalina (Moreira) Vilela for 78 years. Manuel was born in Vila Real, Portugal on September 28, 1918, son of the late Jose and Justina (Fernandes) Vilela. He came to America in 1967 and worked for Waterbury Buckle for over twenty years before his retirement. He was a devoted parishoner of Our Lady of Fatima Church and was a former member of the Portuguese Sports Club. Manuel was an avid gardener and he enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He was a peaceful, quiet man and cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides his wife of Watertown, he is survived by two daughters, Olga Vilela of Watertown, Maria Amelia Olhero and her husband, Celso of Watertown, two grandchildren, Marilia Jose and Nelson Olhero and three great grandchildren, Amelie, Evan and Amanda Jose. He was predeceased by one brother and four sisters. Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November, 26, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Waterbury. Everyone is requested to meet DIRECTLY at the Church. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Manuel's name may be made to either: VITAS Innovative Hospice Care 199 Park Rd. Ext., Suite 102 Middlebury, CT 06762 St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
