William Bassford Obituary
William P. Bassford, age 68 of Norwalk, passed away on June 15, 2023 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Born in Norwalk, the son of the late H. Paige and Celestine (Doran) Bassford, he was the loving husband of Joann (Iannarelli) Bassford for 39 years. Bill was a retired Westport, CT letter carrier from the US Postal Service.
He enjoyed fishing, golfing, music, photography and collecting interesting things. You could always find Bill getting a sandwich or burger at one of his favorite spots in town or having his morning coffee at the beach. He was an avid NY Rangers and Yankees fan. A kind and caring man, who was respectful to everyone who crossed his path, he was also gifted with a great sense of humor. Above all, Bill loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Joann, Bill is survived by his daughters, daughters Carley Williams and her husband Jeremy, and Kelly Lametta and her husband Tom, four cherished grandchildren, Tommy, Rowie, Billy and Lainey, as well as his sister Kathy Blanton.
Bill was a heart recipient, and his family wishes to acknowledge and thank Willie and his family for their loving gift of 14 precious wonderful years.
Bill's family will receive friends on Tuesday June 20 from 4-7PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave, Norwalk. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 21 at 11:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Ave, Norwalk. Other services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to: http://www.donatelifect.org. Bill was not a shirt and tie kind of guy. Feel free to dress as comfortably as you wish or even in your favorite team attire.
