Jerry Todd Atkinson Obituary

Jerry T. "Todd" Atkinson, 55, of Groton, CT passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 24, 2022. He was surrounded by family and loved ones at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, CT. He was born in Union, SC to the late Jerry C. Atkinson and Mary E. Lee (Peahuff).

Todd was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy for 9 years with a discharge rank of Sonar Technician (Submarine) Petty Officer 2nd Class. During active duty he was awarded various medals and ribbons, including two Navy Achievement Medals and a Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. After being honorably discharged, he continued to serve his country and worked at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, CT for 20 years until his passing.

He is survived by his three children, Jared T. Atkinson of Union (SC), Amanda F. Atkinson of North Stonington (CT), and Matthew T. Atkinson of Ledyard (CT); his grandson Jace T. Atkinson of Union (SC); his sister Kimberly Atkinson Knighten of Union (SC); his brother Christopher S. "Scott" Atkinson of Clemson (SC); and many others. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Angela Atkinson Eubanks of Union (SC).

A private celebration of life will be held March 28 at 10am on the Naval Submarine Base for his family and coworkers. A public military service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Wounded Warrior Project in Todd's honor.
