He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Stokes and Simone Stokes (Libbrecht); his son Shawn Rene Stokes; and his siblings, Joseph Stokes, Jr. and Jeanne Wand.
He is survived by: his wife Marianne Stokes of Colchester; his children, Patricia Wagner (John) of Colchester, Nancy LoPriore of Hope Valley, RI, Tami Gaudreau (Gilles) of Plainfield, Michael Stokes (Laurie) of Groton, Christina Stokes of Pawcatuck, Julianne of Medici and Elaine Joseph (Michael) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and his grandchildren, Shawna, Tanya, John Robert, Becky, Brian, Sam, Jimmy, Eric, Travis and Aaron. He is also survived by 17 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and numerous other extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in memory of Robert to the American Cancer Society, the Diabetes Foundation, or Hospice Masonicare of Mystic.
