TOGETHER AGAIN" August 23, 1923 April 13, 2018 Arthur P. Skellet of Willits passed away peacefully at the Holy Spirit Residential Care Home in Willits, at the age of 94 years. He was loving husband of the late Jean M. Skellet, his wife of 64 years; and loving father-in-law of the late Jenna Skellet. They are now together in heaven. He is survived by his daughter Susan (Kenneth) Hansen, and son Paul Skellet; grandsons: Lawrence (Leslie) Hansen, Joel (Vanessa) Skellet; granddaughters: Julie (Jeffery) Chism, Deanne (Craig) Allegro, and Tana (Dave) Edwards; great-grandchildren: Parker, Sheldon and Violet Hansen; Jordan, Clayton and Tristan Skellet; Nathan, Kenna, Clara and Jack Chism; Cole and Kate Allegro; and Jace and Jaxon Edwards, all of whom he loved dearly and told them so often. Arthur was an English gentleman, born in Ramsgate, Kent, England and attended Kingsleigh School where he enjoyed playing soccer and rugby. He was trained to make steam locomotive parts at the Eastleigh Locomotive Works where he made lifelong friends with Alan, Douglas, and Derrek who enjoyed going to a pub for Guiness. In the 1940's he met and married the love of his life, beautiful Jean Mary Reeves. He and Jean owned a farm called "Blandings" at Chartham, near Canterbury. Arthur drove the steam engine 'Samson' for a year on the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, the world's smallest public railway. In 1958, at the age of 35, he brought his family to America for the sunshine and opportunities for them and their children. In 1960 Arthur went to work at Masonite in Ukiah and considered those 18 years the happiest working years of his life making many good friends, and where he was known for his British sense of humor. Over the years his hobbies were gardening, working on his model railroad, sending short-wave radio reports around the world, and stamp collecting. Arthur and Jean enjoyed traveling to Holland, Scotland, Germany, France, New Zealand, and Tahiti as well as visiting family in England and Australia. They were both active in the St. Francis in the Redwoods Episcopal Church. You are invited to share in the celebration of his life on Saturday, May 19 at 11:30 a.m. at Anker-Lucier Mortuary, 95 W. Commercial Street in Willits. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his memory to the Mendocino Coast Model Railroad (MCMRHS) 100 W. Laurel Street, Ft. Bragg, CA 95437.
