John R. Doty Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John R. Doty (Santa Cruz, California), who passed away on July 15, 2021. John was born in 1947 in Glendale, CA. While growing up in nearby La Crescenta John spent many weekends at his grandparents house in Newport Beach, where he developed a great love of the ocean, and of surfing. After a four-year stint in the Air Force, traveling to Australia, Korea, and ultimately Vietnam, John ultimately settled in Santa Cruz, and Pleasure Point -surfing every chance he got. Besides being an avid surfer John also loved gardening and the outdoors, and had a great sense of humor. If there is a heaven John is there now, talking about the swell over at Lighthouse, or telling another of his silly jokes. He is survived (and missed) by two brothers, Michael and Terry. A memorial and spreading of his ashes is planned for 2022. Until then please light a candle in his memory, and remember that life is short, so live it to the fullest. Rest in Peace, John.
