He was predeceased by: his parents, James Henry Albert South and Mattie Blanch Turner South; his son Ricky Lynn South; and his siblings, Sarah Maybelene South Mobbs, Thomas and Oleta.

He is survived by: his wife Brenda Kay Hall South; his daughter Christina Lynn South Seeley (Scott); his grandsons, Colin and Ewan South-Goltz; his sister Katherine South Casteel (Howard); and his sister-in-law Janice Rigsby. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
