He was predeceased by: his parents, Desalena Vela (Cuneo) and Nelson Vela; and his sister Dee Anna Tasto (Vela). He is survived by: his wife Hope Garcia of Jackson; his brother Harry Vela of Jackson, CA; his son Richard Vela (Tanya) of Ione, CA; and his grandsons, Robert Vela of Milwaukee, WI and Eric Vela of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces.
