It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Melvin Leon Mathews of Hanford, California, who passed away on August 22, 2023, at the age of 86, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Thomas Mathews and Clista Mathews; his wife Loretta Gay Mathews; his sons, Melvin J. T. Mathews (Patty Cabanas Mathews), Mark (Becky Mathews), Matthew Mathews (Kendra G. Hotz) and Mason (Linzi Mathews); and his siblings, Rosemary Grayson, Barbara Mikkelson, Margaret Whitten, Ralph Mathews and Hank Mathews. He was also cherished by his seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Mel's honor to the Episcopal Church of the Saviour Soup Kitchen. Donations earmarked "Soup Kitchen" may be mailed to Episcopal Church of the Saviour, 519 N. Douty St., Hanford, CA 93230.
