With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Sophia E. Nicolaou of Fresno, California, who passed away on August 9, 2020 at the age of 93. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, James Zacharias and Effie Chiames (Iphegenia Kyriakopoulos); her brother Paul Chiames of Fresno, CA; her niece Terese Caire of La Canada, CA; and her cousin Helen Pappas.
She is survived by: her husband James Nicolaou; her children, Gary (Vicki) of Phoenix, AZ and Gina (Rick) of Fresno, CA; her grandchildren, Zachary Kazanjian of Los Angeles, CA, Niko Kazanjian of New York, NY and Melina Kazanjian of Fresno, CA.; her sister-in-law Anita Chiames of Fresno, CA; her cousins, Anne Drulias of Bakersfield, CA, Dena Adamopoulos and Kalliope Manolis of Greece; her nephews, Chris Chiames (Pennie) of Dallas, TX, Paul Chiames of Los Angeles, CA, Chris Detsikas (Marsha) of Lancaster, MA and John Nicolaou (Karen) of Fair Oaks, CA; and her niece Marianne Lukenda of Folsom, CA. She is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private funeral and burial service will be held on August 14, 2020 at 11:00am at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, Fresno.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Sophia's name and memory to the St George Greek Orthodox Church Memorial Fund, 2219 N Orchard St, Fresno CA 93703.
