He is survived by: his parents, Don Thornton and June Thornton; his friend Doug; his siblings, Christine, Don, Robert and David; his children, Amber, Heidi, Tyler, Mckenna, Mckay and Brynn; his grandchildren, Noah, Hannah, Trinity, Mason, Sarah, Kjerstin and Olive; and also, Amber, Heidi, Tyler, Mckenna, Mckay and Brynn.

“I cannot express how significantly Doug Thornton has impacted our lives. It may seem trivial to you, that he simply invited us to join him for Thursday night volleyball at the Maroa building in the late 1990's. However, that led to years and years of great volleyball, and a plethora of new friends that we still enjoy adventuring with to this day.
