She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Harold and Beverly Nelson; her fiancé John David Burks Jr.; her granddaughter Eliana Okash; her cousins, Pamela Fritch-Hieb, Bruce Johnson and Diana Parask; her sister Gloria Notman; her son Tim Okash (Jason A. Okash); her foster sons, Raphael Mijares and Cyrus Stevens; and her close friends, Debi Davisson, Teresa McRaney and Sharon West.
