He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Hughes and LaVon Hughes; his son David Hughes; his grandson Bryan T Hughes Claussen; and his brother Gary Hughes.

He is survived by: his wife Alice; his children, Mark Hughes of Honolulu, Darin Hughes of Citrus Heights and Joy Fink (Robert) of Arkansas; his grandchildren, Joshua Hughes (Debra) of Oregon, Michelle Lancaster (Chris) of Washington and Amanda Norskog (Max) of Nevada City; his great grandchildren, Torsten, Kasey, Bryan, Aksel, Mackenzie, Sydney and Harlequin Alice; and his sister Phyllis Staplin. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces and many cousins.
