He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvilda Chesnutt and John Chesnutt; and his brother Harold Chesnutt. He is survived by: his children, Alvilda Chesnutt, John Chesnutt, Claudia Leavitt (Allan), Nancy Matsumoto (Masa), Christine Cadd (Dennis) and Phil Chesnutt (Candace); his wife Carol Osterberg Chesnutt; and his children, Michael Osterberg, Sandra Tanhuanpaa (Keijo), Kay Sanders (Brian), David Osterberg (Keli) and Dan Osterberg. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations in his name can be made to the Oakland Zoo.
