He is survived by: his wife Hortensia Miranda (Tenchi); his sons, Robert E. Gortarez of Temple and Gilbert M. Gortarez (June) of Franklin; his siblings, Yolanda Gortarez, Minerva Gortarez, Erlinda Gortarez (Linda), Jesus Gortarez (Jesse) of Phx, AZ, Cornelio Gortarez (Corny) of Soledad, CA and Gabriel Gortarez of Portland, OR; his grandchildren, Angelica M. Gortarez, Christopher I. Gortarez, Gilbert Z. Gortarez, Brandon R. Gortarez, Mia C. Gortarez, Gabriel M. Gortarez and James A. Gortarez; and his great grandchildren, Javier and Noah Bustos.
