He was predeceased by: his father Max Clayton Cooper; his stepfather J. V. "Pete" Appleton; his brother James Clayton Cooper; and his brother-in-law Cletus Harrison. He is survived by: his wife Judy Cooper (Sheffield) of Paris; his sons, Travis "Bubba" Cooper, Jr. (Michelle) of Paris and Jay Cooper (Carrie) of Paris; his grandchildren, Jacob Watkins (Brianna), Sara Jones (Jeremy), Kayci Watkins, Dewayne Honea, Natalie Honea, Brooke Hatcher (Coty), Kara Garcia (Joshua), Lee Cooper (Meagan), Davis Cooper (Tiera), Callie Smith, Jaelyn Cooper, Camryn Bauer, Allie Harrison, Allen and Richie Rankin (Michel Rankin); his sister Linda Harrison of Paris; and his sister-in-law Sue Cooper of Paris. He is also survived by 19 great grandchildren.
