He was predeceased by: his parents, Harley Esch and Mildred Fauber Esch; his wife Lora Bell Sever; and his daughter-in-law Teresa Esch. He is survived by: his sister Lucille Dyer of East Peoria, IL; and his children, Debra Crist (Doug) of Albuquerque, NM, Michael Esch (Beth) of Mount Juliet, TN, Vicki Grewe (Jeff) of Athens, AL, James Esch (Irene) of Lovettsville, VA, Thomas Esch (Rina) of San Jose, CA and Susan Rynearson (Ty) of Peoria, IL. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington.
