He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Ivo B. Phelps and Virginia Phelps (Jordan); his sister Gay Certain; his sons, John (Lori), Eric and Paul Phelps (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Annabel Phelps, Erica Phelps, Jessica Phelps and Maddy McFarlin (Austin); and his siblings, Sue and Lin Richardson.

Ivo financially supported or donated steel to local churches for construction.
