He was predeceased by: his parents, William Eli and Mary Iola Freeman Sams; his wife Ruby; and his siblings, Doyle Sams, Eldon Sams, Junior Sams, John Arlon Sams, Carolyn Beene Gray, Rosalie Ryan and Gladys Fuchs.

He is survived by: his son Keith Sams (Mary) of Dripping Springs, Texas; his grandchildren, Timothy Sams (Kate) of Plattsburg and Jennifer Sams of Austin, Texas; his great grandchild Maggie Sams of Plattsburg; and his siblings, Wayne Sams of Conway, Arkansas, Anavurl Karber and Luevern Glover of Greenbrier. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
