He was predeceased by: his parents, John W. Phillips, Sr. and Lorene Jones Phillips (Peg); his wife Shirley Phillips (Carlisle); his children, John W. Phillips III and Peggy Phillips Broz; and his brother Robert D. Phillips.
He is survived by: his daughter Regina Phillips Herrington (Gina); his grandchildren, Zachary Broz, Cherish of Robertsdale, AL, Hannah Broz of Lillian, AL, Shaina Adamson and Josh of Lanett; his great grandchildren, Grayson Broz, Aksel Broz, DeClan Broz of Robertsdale and Reese Adamson of Lanett; his siblings-in-law, Anne Phillips, Sandra Carlisle and Walter Brown; his son-in-law John Broz; and his stepgranddaughters, Kelcie Herrington (Dylan Vallia), Mady Herrington (Conner Hamby) and Kylan Vallia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Mr. Phillips memory be made to Bethany House in Auburn.
