He is survived by: his wife Kikuko Hancock; his children, Michelle Barnett (Bill) of New Market, AL and Russell Hancock of Omaha, NE; his grandchildren, Jacob Barnett, Joshua Barnett of New Market, AL and Cameron Hancock of Beulaville, NC; his great grandchildren, Exzy and Zailey Hancock of Beulaville, NC; and his siblings, Arnold Hancock of Ripley, TN, Joyce Hancock of Ripley, TN, Kathy Green of Ripley, TN, Margie Morris of Ripley, TN and Peggy Howell of Ripley, TN. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Seed Savers Exchange, American Heart Association, or charity of one's choice.

“I first met Charles at C.T. Garvin Feed & Seed in Huntsville, AL where he gave a talk - as Old Alabama Gardener. To this day, I swear by his grow mix. Charles also came and spoke at Forever Green Mountain Garden Club and everyone loved his talk. Sue Schuman and I later went up to Cookeville, TN to hear his talk about comfrey at the Great Appalachian Homesteading Conference. His videos on You Tube are a hit too! I wondered if he was okay when I hadn't heard from him. He'll be sorely missed.”
