He was predeceased by: his parents, Virginia Sherrod and Joseph Sherrod; and his brother Jay Sherrod. He is survived by: his wife Ellen Sherrod; his daughter Rebecca Sherrod; and his siblings, Joe Sherrod Jr. (Phyllis), Judy Hopkins (Terry), Ronny Sherrod (Marcia), Charles E. Sherrod and Susan Jolliff (Rick). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
