He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Bates and Dot Bates; and his father-in-law Gene Jaye. He is survived by: his wife Carol Gene Bates of Elberta, AL; his sons, Jerry Bates (Beth) of Mobile, Adam Bates (Carlie) of Robertsdale and Owen Bates (Megan) of Elberta; his grandchildren, Collin, Ceana, Madison, Alton and Carter; his brother Michael Bates (Janelle) of Foley; his nephew Justin Bates (Crystal) of Robertsdale; his great-nephew Bryson; his mother-in-law Carolyn Jaye Miller (Lonnie); his siblings-in-law, Glenn Jaye (Amy), David Jaye (Christina), Jason Jaye and Angela Hackett (John); and the mother of his child Linda Landry (Tom). He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
