He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Karstaedt and Delores Karstaedt (Perl); and his siblings, Jeff and Lori Lynn. He is survived by: his pets, Jo "Dingo", Hunter, Henry and Ellie; his wife Frances; his children, Andrew Karstaedt of Memphis, Alissa Mallory (Everett) of Olive Branch, Daniel of Cullman and Norma Schoonhoven of Cullman; his siblings, Debbie Dittmer (Bruce), Todd Karstaedt, Marybeth Nachtwey (Dan Preissner) and Kim Rolkosky (Steven); and his grandchildren, Lakia Karstaedt and Javien Karstaedt. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, family and friends.
