He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles L. Johnston and Mary Bonner Johnston. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Nabors Johnston; his daughter Bonnie Sanders (Steve); his brothers, Samuel W. Johnston (Ellen) and Terry C. Johnston of Birmingham; and his sisters-in-law, Sharon Harris (Richard), Elizabeth "Libba" Ellison (Daryl) and Judith Sharp (David).
