He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam Coutts and Jane Coutts; and his parents-in-law, Reg and Rebecca Smith. He is survived by: his wife Pamela; his children, Fiona, Joe (Canada), Daryl "Moggie", Zoe, Katrina "Polly", Jason, Jacob (Canada), Nico and Lachlan; his brother Brian (Dunedin); and his siblings-in-law, Bo and Liz (Paroa). He is also survived by nephews in New Zealand, and cousins.
