He is survived by: his spouse Pam; his children, Christine Abela (Martin Wells) and Corrina (Rex Adams); his grandchildren, Jennifer Abela, Rachel Abela (Australia), Tamara Ash, Ross Ash, Lena Mutu, Leroy Mutu and Julian Lagan; his great grandchildren, Noah of Isaiah, R. J., Isla and Lennox; and his sibling Ngaire Garrick.
