He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Burns and Jessie Burns; his brothers, Robert (late Gerry), Alexander and James (late Amelia); and his brothers-in-law, Bob Dinsdale (late Patricia) and Ted Dinsdale.

He is survived by: his wife Dolores; his children, Duncan, Mary Burns, Beckie and Michael Colby; his grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Kyle Burns; his brother Rae (Sharon); and his sister-in-law Doris Mitchell (late Wes). He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
