He was predeceased by: his wife Ann Hamilton; his parents, Arnold Hamilton and Audrey Hamilton; and his nephew Sean Loyst. He is survived by: his daughters, Lorie Hamilton of Ottawa and Diana Hamilton-Toivanen (Mark) of Ottawa; his grandsons, James and William; his sister Brenda Hamilton (Mario Gencarelli) of Kingston; and his niece Erin Hijmans (Manalto).
