She was predeceased by: her parents, Vaino Vanhanen and Jenny Vanhanen; and her sister Helka Jokinen. She is survived by: her husband Paul Sopuch; her children, David (Angelica), Daniel (Zenia) and Karen Makedon (Terry); her grandson Max; her sons, Christopher, Nicholas and Jimmy; and her siblings, Marja Schaper (Peter) and Paul Vanhanen (Sandy). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends.

In Ritva's memory, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
