He was predeceased by: his parents, John A. Schmidt and Jessie Schmidt; his wife Lavina; his grandson Konrad Ostner; his great grandchildren, Lee-anne and James Schmidt; and his brothers, John T. and Robert Schmidt.
He is survived by: his children, Paul (Nancy) of Ayr, Kathleen Janzen (Bill) of Waterloo, Elaine (Rick Yellen) of Corpus Christi, Irene (Geoff Adeney) of Ayr, George (Janet) of Ayr, Ann (Steve Brunton) of Ayr, Michael (Merry) of Ayr and Heidi (Derrick Ostner) of Ayr; his grandchildren, Robert, Thom, Sarah, Nicole, Kymn, Bekki, Sharleen, Jacquelyn, Elisabeth, Hillary, Patrick, Matthew, Jessica, Ian, Alex, Andrea and Calvin; and his sister-in-law Margaret Schmidt of Standard. He is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
