He was predeceased by: his parent Robert Petrie; and his brother Freddy Christie. He is survived by: his parent Theresa Petrie (McPhee); his wife Lillian (MacLeod); his children, Caitlyn Petrie (Joseph Pelly), Makayla Petrie and Matthew Petrie of Sydney; his siblings, Terry Mitchell (Roddie), Jean Christie, Agnes Fredericksen (Lorne) and Billy Petrie (Linda); and his grandson Leland Boutilier.
