He was predeceased by: his parent Charlie MacNeil; his sister Julia Boutilier; his nephew Nelson MacDonald; his uncle Henry Rosta; and his significant other Edie Slade.

He is survived by: his parent Mary MacNeil; his daughters, Mary Ann and Glace Bay (Georgina); his siblings, Charles McNeil (Joni), Mary McNeil, Ann Marie McNeil and Glace Bay; his grandchildren, Amber Bay (Billy) and Glace Bay; and his great grandchild Kai. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society of Cape Breton or the Cape Breton Regional Cancer Centre.
