He was predeceased by: his parents, Ronald Fitzgerald and Bridget Fitzgerald (Galway); his daughter Kathleen Mary Francis; and his brothers, David, Ronald "Ron" and Francis "Frank".
He is survived by: his wife Lillian (Wheten); his children, Bernard Michael Jr. and Karen Lynne Heukshorst (Joseph); his grandchildren, Grace "Gracie", Autumn "Audie", Joseph "Joey", Martin "Marty" and Kara "Pinky" Heukshorst; and his sisters, Eileen, Agnes "Aggie" and Karen "Bobby". He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
