He was predeceased by: his brother Jerome Lightning; his cousins, Samantha Lightning and Gerald Lightning; his grandmother Louise Lightning; and his great-grandparents, Phillip Lightning, Cecilea Yellowbird-Lightning, Jerome Skani, Percy Williams, Mary Yellowbird, Jimmy Yellowbird and Stanley Yellowbird.

He is survived by: his parents, Barbra Lightning and Michael Skani; his daughters, Jalisse Lightning and Nihtaya Lightning-Bull; and his siblings, Scarlett Faye Lightning, Sheena Lightning (Waylon), Nadine Yellowbird (Romeo), Donald Yellowbird (Cherise), James Yellowbird (Sandra) and Jamison Yellowbird (Valerie).
